I actually agree Ian.
While I really like the Iphone touch screen for quick navigation in complex
interface or peaces of information such as King of dragon pass when you want
a specific thing that is at a specific part of the screen, for basic textual
navigation or for just finding controls I find it rather clunky, and
specifically do not brouse the net on my Iphone for that reason. Even forms
somewhat irritate me since once I have typed in a form field, I can't
instantly get straight back to it as I could with a windows screen reader by
just pressing E. Heck, even flicking to "next track" in something like
Itunes on my phone is far less quick than just one key in winamp, as is
selecting what to play next, I also do not appreciate how complex creating
subfolders for Icons is in ios, though I think that is more the os layout
than voiceover's performance specifically.
In fairness as I said I do really appreciate things like just hitting the
top right corner to get my battery life or the top of the screen for the
time, both of which I'd have to get in windows by alt tabbing to the
desktop, switching on virtual curser and hitting ctrl end to go to the very
bottom. I also really like the scrub back gesture, a great time saver in
settings dialogues.
To me it's just Swings and Roundabouts, the two systems are two very
different beasties with different advantages and siadvantages, although when
I do! have my bluetooth keyboard handy it'd be nice to have some of the same
options available for shortcuts and navigation on the Iphone as I do on the
Pc.
All the best,
Dark.
