I AGree with charlse on this one, checking for updates is handy in programs like MushZ which make hosts of small changes on a very frequent basis and have whacking great setup files to download, or projects where there are continually a lot of small bits and files to download like mapsets for sound rts, but for stand alone programs like Jim's that only get the odd update it's really not worth it, and after all it's not as if Jim's website doesn't make it easy to find the updated files or as if they're hard to install.

Beware the grue!
