Hi josh.
I had a look at the stuff, sadly since the com0com drivers are 64 bit
only I couldn't install them.
So at this time I won't continue right now at least till I can get
some time with an x64 box later on.
However after looking at all packages needed there are several
shortcuts I think should be investigated.
1. why is it necessary to run version 4 of vmware player its old and
won't probably get past win8 and the uac and security things anyway.
while the latest 7 is 64 bit only 6 is the latest version why use 4.
And why have it so you have to install it anyway, it seems better if
you included all the various stuff in a portable package.
2. why do you bother with python at all.
Why not use py2exe or something to compile the files to executable
with a lot of python compiled files for everything else and python
whatever in a dll like nvda does it, you really could put users off
with all this stuff..
3. pyserial has a version for the 3x current stable of python why are
you not using this and taking advantage of the newer features and
other stuff, or at least using 2.7 which is the latest stable of the
2x branch.
next, there must be a better way then installing extra drivers for
com0com straight to windows yes it makes sence and is probably a good
idea, but your average user won't care to have another vertual com
port which could be hacked by someone installed in their system,
worse com0com latest isn't even signed and only the 64 bit drivver is
signed by someone else.
how much is it to get something signed.
Its a good idea but for what I am using it for, its not worth my while
at least right now.
I'd like to download a vm as a user, click and run and it all run.
this is a programmers vm and while thats fine for standard techs I am
a bit against installing possibly incompatable or old probably
unsecured software on a system with the potentual for dammage.
And its quite complex.
right now my 32 bit system is fine, and to be honest its probably
easier running an xp vm in a vm or win98 with some older software I
have which should in theory work fine without all the hastle or even
the linux option tom is working on.
Its a good step, however I really think getting dosbox to work with a
vertual synth is probably better or have dosbox use espeak or nvda or
some universal speech library to make things accessable in the long run.
