Subject: [Audyssey] A Visit from Lycanthrope Claus .

A Visit from Lycanthrope Claus .
by Phil Vlasak.
Inspired by Clement Clark Moore.
The Christmas full moon will be the 1st since 1977...

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The garlic was hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that werewolf Claus would not be there.
The children were nestled shivery in their beds,
While visions of glowing red eyes danced in their heads.
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The full moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But an enormous sleigh, and eight giant reindeer.
With a large old driver, with whiskers and paws,
I knew in a moment it must be Lycanthrope Claus.
More rapid than bats his coursers they came,
And he barked, and howed, and called them by name.
"Now, Thrasher! now, Smasher! now, Rupture and Vixen,
On, Vomit! on, Stupid! on, Dopey and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch, up the side of the wall,
Now jump away, jump away, jump away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of bones, and a werewolf Claus too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The prancing and pawing of each large hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Lycanthrope Claus came with a bound.
He was covered all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his claws were all coated with blood and soot.
A bundle of bones he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a murderer just opening his sack.
His tail, how harry! his fangs, how scary!
His whiskers were like needles, eyes red as a cherry!
His droll long snout had drawn out as it grew,
And the fur of his chin was as brown as the stew.
The stump of an arm he held tight in his teeth,
And its blood it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a large round belly,
That shook when he growled, like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a hair-raising werewolf,
And I screamed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A glance of his eye and a twitch of his tail,
Soon gave me to know I had everything to faille.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
But at the sound of my gun he turned with a jerk.
While pulling my finger back on the trigger,
The silver bullet hit as he leaped at my figure.
He crashed out the window while his team gave a whistle,
And away they flew at the sound of my pistol.
But I heard him exclaim, as he fell out of sight,
"Cause those damn reindeer left me, I'll give them a good bite!"
