Ah, I see what you mean.
Well there are several possibilities depending upon what else you fancy.
First, if you look in this topic you will find a list and explanations of a
number of muds who's focus is activities like crafting, exploring,
wilderness, farming, and rping with other players:
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=17534
Some like six dragons have combat as a major theme in the game, some like
clok and wayfare1444 leave combat as a preference depending upon your
character.
From that list I can personally recommend wayfare1444 and clok having tried
and very much liked both, though other people speak well of empire mud and
lament.
Avalon has some unique ideas and probably the best descriptions I've read of
any mud, but I'm still a little overwhelmed by info on that one and what I
should do, particularly sinse much in avalon revolves around interacting
with other players rather than exploring for preset goals, or indeed so it
seemed.
I would also recommend the muds frandom:
http://www.frandum.fr/
And fluxworld:
http://centauri.servegame.com:8000/flux.php
frandom is a mud like a giant old style if game, with lots of focus on
quests and exploring ojbects and the environment and while there is combat,
that's not how you progress. Fluxworld is quite a unique idea sinse
basically it's more like an online world than a mud with lots of different
things to explore and play with and more stuff added all the time, and
virtually zero combat accept for one area.

Hi.
First, who said promethius can't be played anymore? There were apparently
two versions a modern and a classic but the classic is still runing and
being updated, connect at prometheus-enterprises.com
port 5551.
for more info go to
http://www.prometheus-enterprises.com/eternal-wars.html
Second, I'm not sure what you mean by "exploring muds"
Most games you get something for exploring, even if just monsters to
fight. Alteraeon for example has explorer points you can earn by spending
time and exploring different game areas that give extra xp and such.
More crafting based muds like Clok or empire mud you need to explore for
resources and so on, where as more puzzle like ones like frandom and
fluxworld have exploration for puzzles and different game aspects.
There are lots of muds with descriptions on the mud connector site, but
finding what you want there could be difficult. I'd recommend checking
audiogames.net database sinse we have pages for several muds and more to
add, or ask around on list.
Hth, and sorry I can't be more specific, I'm afraid without knowing what
exactly an "exploring mud" is it's difficult to say.
All the best,
dark.
