Hi Kelly, You need to get within 5 feet of a door to use the password. The best way is to use the shift d key and arrow to the object you want to open to find out how far it is. I put the anti chamber door there to be nasty, there is no way to open it. The staff room needs more than a spell or password to open it.
Passwords spoiler You only have one at the beginning of the game. When you pick up the map, hit enter to get the ones for the demo. Once you get to the other floors you will automatically get the full list. Some knowledge of the Harry Potter books will make picking out which password is for which room easier. Also using the map with control m helps too.
