Hi Tom,
Will the Monty public beta have the entre game or just the first level?
I'm also going to be moving into a new place within the next week or so, and
the lady I'll be living with (my fiance as a matter of fact), has a
fascination with audio gaming. This is one of the games I told her about, so
it'd be neat to introduce her to it.
Bryan and Jennie, the Engaged Audio Gamers.

> Greetings gamers,
> Before we get to the news I'd like to point out that allot is going on
> in my personal life. My wife and I are in the process of moving and
> there has been very little work done on any of the projects for the last
> week-and-a-half.
> Most of the reason is my wife and I have been busy packing, sorting, and
> hauling stuff away we no longer want or need.
> The other half is do to the fact my desktop computer, which I have had
> since 2002, has died. The most likely cause is bad copassitors on the
> motherboard. In either case I am going to have to use an older computer,
> or go out and buy a new desktop computer once I am settled financially.
> Fortunately, I do have my laptop which allows me to check my email, do
> some programming work, etc. However, laptops are not the most desirable
> system to sit behind all day and program, edit, and for extensive stuff.
> At least, that is how it has been for me.
> With all that is going on you may not think there is much news that is
> news worthy. This news letter aims to be more about future plans than
> progress, but there is some progress mixed in as well. So let's get
> started.

> Montezuma's Revenge
>
> We at USA Games are very glad to announce Montezuma's Revenge public

> the first level is completed.
> Currently, I am attending to some very miner bugs in the game core, and
> will be starting on level 2 once i get settled in my new apartment.
> I know that the schedule has been pushed back many times, but I am
> certainly hoping for a July release of public beta 1. Right now the

> Shortly before losing the desktop I was doing some preliminary work on
> STFC 2.0. I certainly think STFC 2 will be much better than STFC 1.0.
> One of the changes I will be implementing is there will be more than one
> style of Borg ship. On the easiest levels you might have to fight a
> sphere or scout ship. On the advanced and expert levels you might have
> to fight a Borg cube.
> Another feature that will be introduced in to STFC 2 is ship specific
> menus. For example, a starship such as Enterprise would have a helm
> option in the main menu for controlling navigation. However, starbases
> do not have warp engines, impulse engines, etc so for them the helm
> controls will not be there.
> Perhaps most important about the new menus is autopilot and vessel menus
> will be dynamic. That means if a ship such as Enterprise is destroyed it
> will not appear in the vessel or autopilot menu.
> One feature that is still being debated is Sapi verses recorded speech.
> In one way Sapi would make the game easier to program maintain,
> optionally allow for multiple voices, interrupt speech, etc.
> However, I am also aware there are now some foreign interests in the
> game which want to translate STFC in to other languages. That is great,
> and can be done easy enough when recorded speech is used. It is not so
> easy if I use Sapi which my games are designed for the UK, US, and
> Australian voices.
> One major change I am looking at is redesigning the way battles are
> fought. In 2.0 you will no longer be able to fire off 300 torpedoes and
> blow the other guy away in one single move, nor can they blow you away
> in one move. Instead ship to ship engagements can take several turns,
> and it will help to gang up on enemy ships and destroy them.
> Finally, one major change is STFC 2.0 will also have some background
> music during game play. Of course, it can be optionally enabled and
> disabled, but the music I have chosen should set the mood for the battles.

> Star Wars
>
> As many of you may know USA Games has been working on and off on a Star
> Wars FPS title for some time. Unfortunately, I have changed my mind many
> times having changed story, characters, etc which resulted in some
> rather unusable code. However, I've recently started the project over
> from scratch, and this time I think it will stick.
> The basic story line of the game picks up weeks after Revenge of the
> Sith. The Jedi knights have been nearly wiped out, and those that are
> alive are on the run or in hiding. One of these Jedi is Olee Starstone
> seen in the book, "Dark Lord: the Rise of Darth Vader,) and is the
> central character of our story and game.
> The game begins in the final chapters of, "Dark Lord: the Rise of Darth
> Vader," with Olee Starstone and Chewbacca attempting to escape
> Kashyyykk. The object is to make it to the shuttle and make it back
> safe-and-sound to the Drunk Dancer, a smuggler ship commanded by Master
> Roan Shryine's biological mother.
> Unfortunately, there is an invasion going on so Imperial shuttles will
> be dropping off Imperial clone troopers, probe droids, etc and you will
> have to cut your way through the enemy lines to make it to your shuttle
> to escape.
> Sometime afterward you discover Chewbacca's family and friends were
> taken prisoner by the Empire. u agree to help him, and begin your quest
> by breaking into an Imperial research base. Once you access the main
> computer you discover Emperor Palpatine has put Moff Tarken and Darth
> Vader in charge of the design and construction of a new and deadly super
> weapon. Can anyone guess what it is?
> Well, needless to say you search for clues where this super weapon is
> being built knowing many of the captured wookees are there. However,
> before you can stop the project and rescue the wookees Darth Vader
> intercepts you, and it is a battle to the death. If you die history goes
> on as recorded by the SW books, and if you win you can go on to
> Coruscant and defeat the Emperor ending the Empire.
