Indeed, GWSE was great. I really did appreciate it... Too bad it's gone, for the foreseeable future anyway. Bah. Speaking of games with different feel to them, I have recently stumbled on a mud which has a rather unique approach to characters, at least. Namely, they pregenerate them with backgrounds, relationships, skills, etc. You RP them and put your own spin on them. I don't know how appealing this might be to anyone: it is awful different.
