Just because a key is usable in the game doesn't mean someone has to use it. 
Or it could be a toggle or something.

I can't go as far to say it is a useless key stroke, but I do agree that
adding it might take away some of the challenge in this game. james
North gave as little info as was necessary for exactly that reason. To
give the game some challenge.
However, I do understand some gamers have hearing loss, and perhaps may
need this feature for disability reasons other than vision.
They might need to hear Rolling skull, to the left, 5 feet because they
have partial deafness in the left ear. I would certainly understand this
on that grounds.
However, for those of us who have no problems hearing then such a
feature adds info, and in ways takes some of the challenge out of
hearing when to jump.
