No. He needs to press fn, command f5. The MacBooks are set to automaticly hold down the fn key while pressing the command key as default. This makes it easyer to ajust some hardware settings like display brightness and the sound volume. So fn, command and f5 will enable Voiceover. If you just press command f5, you'll just turn up the volume. This confused me then I tried a Mac computer in a shop.
