Hi Damien,
I guess in order for us to solve your Sapi 5 issues I think it might be
helpful, and try to find out how it got broke in the first place. For
example, when I was trouble shooting Sapi 5 issues for Montezuma's
Revenge I discovered if you install some speech demos, some third-party
Sapi voices, and later remove them all of your Sapi 5 voices may stop
working properly.
In one case in point one of my customers installed some of the Cepstral
voices, and when Cepstral upgraded to the latest Swift engine, he
removed his older versions, and tried updating to the new voices. For
whatever reason all of his Sapi voices stopped working. In the end I
only solved his problem by talking him through a Sapi 5 reinstall from
the Win XP recovery cd.
As it happens it is events like that which has made me personally decide
to drop Sapi 5 support in the next release of the game now known as
Mysteries of the Ancients. My job is game technical support, not MS Sapi
support, but you know how some customers are. If their machine is busted
they want it fixed pronto so they can play the game they baught, and if
their machine is broken they blame my game for their troubles rather
than their cranky computer. Grin.
Anyway, if you can help us out by telling us what you installed
recently, if you have added any new Sapi voices recently, etc it would
help out a bunch.
Cheers.
