New Moon and Godwars2 are two of my favorites. Godwars2 is easily the most advanced mud to date, save maybe slipgate legacy. It's entirely pvp however. Sadly I couldn't help you get started with new moon, I suicided my main characters and haven't gotten the motivation to make new ones yet. You could also try project bob, its essentially a mud where you can do basically anything you want with your character. Basically unlike most muds, anything you spend can be gotten back, save money. You can even rebuild your character from the ground up without losing a thing, its like a reroll without having to gain your power back. Those are the 3 main ones I can think of at the moment.
