Hello,
You will need to purchase a nuclear power plant, increase your
appropriate tech skill to the required number, have the required level
of captain, and then go in to the ship adjust link and click on one of
the two weapon/en buttons. You then equip the power plant and will be
able to power more things. I recommend using the buyer market as almost
everything is less expensive than the shops.
So, after I hooked up my basic nuclear power plant, I went and purchased
a nice cargo expander. I did not properly read the power requirements on
the cargo expander, and have a ship which now has 1500 units of power
and an expander which requires 1700 units of power. As soon as the power
plant which I want comes up on the buyers market while I am at one of
the market interfaces, I am purchasing it. I will then be able to take
some contracts from the larger shipping company as well. Only 10 more
levels before I am at the level for the ship I want. I wonder if I can
earn the several million credits for it by then. Maybe with 40 more
holds I can work towards it more rapidly.

Firstly you should know that any plannet with a trading centre
collection point market, etc should have one.
if you are out of luck you can always try the home system the start
system in feris sinkport may have one and there may be others.
