Sarah I believe I can help. Use Tab to scroll through the menus, not the arrow keys. I suppose I should add in the arrows as acceptable alternatives to using Tab, I'll do that in a little while so it will be in the next release.
The reason the mouse seems to be backwards is because the sound you're hearing isn't moving. It represents a beacon. As you're moving the mouse to the right you are hearing it getting farther away on your left. Imagine the beacon as being a small spot on your mouse pad and it will make more sense with how the sound changes.
