Hi Jim, Well, if you take the position of actually sitting behind the wheel, I.E. looking out the windshield, that would be classified first-person as the game is from the perspective of physically sitting inside the car. This is how USA Raceway works, and is in the first-person as it tries to emulate the feeling of actually driving the car while sitting in it.
With games like Poll Position they are third person because visually it is from the perspective of looking down at the track from above. You can see most of the track and all or most of the cars from that angle.
