The iPhone's touch screen does improve the situation just a bit. I,
however, cannot play a game of chess using the touch screen as a way to
review the board. I have to have a physical board to explore with my hands.

I agree, for me, spacial puzzles like Liam's slider, as well as solitare,
chess, mine sweeper etc are nearly impossible just by speech review, I'd
need the board in front of me in one form or another, but then again i
freely admit my spacial mapping and memory skills are not the best.
However, I do wonder if touchscreens could help with this to an extent,
since you'd still get positional info as you moved your fingers around
rather than having to maintain everything in your head as you review in
speech one part of the board.
Of course this is where a full on tactile display which showed the hole
screen would be awsome.
