That would be nice, but I suppose that something like this could be enough:

 def TestInstanceShutdown(instance):
   AssertCommand(["gnt-instance", "shutdown", instance["name"]])
   CallAFunctionThatRisesAnExceptionIfTheInstanceIsUP(instance["name"])
