I mean the backup tool should be very flexible in order to easily deploy
and maintain backups for various use cases: backups requirements are
defined internally by the ganeti users.

A/ Per instance export strategy.

Instead of os-type level definition (already discussed).

B/ Per disk export strategy.

We have instances where type of content is well defined on disk level:
- first disk for the system;
- other disks for the data (sometime with finer granularity depending of
  the type of data).

We need to be able to have different strategies for each kind of content:
- backup once a day for the system only and twice a day for the data only;
- use various backend storage for the backups (local, FTP server, NFS,
  etc) at either disk or instance level.
