Hi, Template Haskell has several benefits, including, it generates Haskell code which can be easily imported from other modules, and we have large Haskell codebase; and it can be typechecked.
If we were do this in a text-based configuration file, not only we would have no guarantee that the values were correct and well-typed, but we would have to write additional code to read and parse the file, or pull a library. I don't really see an advantage here.
