ok i'm back to my earlier belief that we CAN use the embedded web server code to serve the content pages. i just spent today doing a _big_ revamp of the code. when i get the chance i'll shoot the mods back to the original libhttpd author. the huge weakness of libhttpd was that it could only handle a single client request at a time. that just is no good if you want to sent HTML pages with inline SVG images. i changed the code to handle multiple client requests at once. i'm going to do a little more testing before i get too excited again.. but i'm getting really good results so far.
