I am facing similar problems with gmond 2.5.6 on solaris 9. With debug
on it works and without it it dies immediately. I saw another post on
this mailing list who faced a similar problem, but there was no response
to his post.

Actually, I've noticed that this problem has persisted since the 2.5.7 releases.
Since using the unp.h library and the extra wrapper prototypes, gmond & gmetad
have
problems daemonizing/forking when "debug_level" is zero.
When I ran an "strace" on gmond, it crapped out immediately after the
"Fork/fork" in daemon_init.c.
However, if "debug_level" is a non-zero value, gmond & gmetad run with their
respective
debug output accordingly.
In contrast, 2.6.0 runs fine on Solaris 2.6, 5.8, & 5.9.
Any tips to point me in the right direction are much appreciated.
