to install ganglia (gmond only right now) on a Windows NT/2000/XP box, simple run http://matt-massie.com/ganglia/Setup.exe
i learned more about the Windows services and registry today than i ever wanted to.
i would love it if someone out there who doesn't have Cygwin installed on a windows box (we have it everywhere here) would try to run the installer and see that gmond works. i _think_ i only need cygwin1.dll for it to run (but there might be another DLL in the mix i missed).
using gmond is pretty straight forward... you'll see a Program Group called "Ganglia" with five files: an "Internet Shortcut" file to ganglia.info, gmondconfig (a batch file that open gmond.conf for editing), gmondstart (a batch file that starts the gmond service), gmondstop (a batch file that stops the gmond service) and an "Uninstall Ganglia" program.
by default gmond.conf has the mcast_channel set to 127.0.0.1.running a simple "telnet localhost 8649" test on your windows box should let you know if gmond is working.
i've tested this installation on win 2k and win xp. enjoy! -matt -- PGP fingerprint 'A7C2 3C2F 8445 AD3C 135E F40B 242A 5984 ACBC 91D3' They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. --Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
