Matt, my choice would be 2.6.0. The changes that went in are incompatible (metrics, configuration file), but the architecture is still similar enough to 2.5.X.
Once you go to the embedded webserver stuff it is time for 3.0. Because then you will have to make a CVS branch in order to maintain a 2.6 maintenancew stream.
