I'm currently using the ganglia thresholding module.

The installation of the GroundWorks OpenSource tool is non-trivial, well not
as simple as the install of ganglia.
But, it does give you a complete monitoring tool, that in combination with
the check_ganglia bit permits you to threshold ganglia metrics the to
generate service alerts.
And, since it has a complete notification system... you can then be alerted
to conditions systems.

I've seen posters in the past requesting some kind of thesholding add on to
ganglia ... this is the right way to do it.
Though, it's non-trival... you are really implementing a complete monitoring
system like nagios (well you are installing nagios under the covers.)
