I don't really see this as a big issue as you can upgrade the frontend
separately from gmetad/gmond.  For users stuck with older versions of
PHP, they can stay with the PHP4-compatible Ganglia frontend or try to
upgrade to PHP5.

Do you have existing installations that are stuck with PHP4?  If you
are on CentOS 4, you could install PHP5 via the CentOS Plus
repository.
