Actually that is no longer the case. You should never get a broken image. 
You will in worst case end up with a blank image that says "No Matching 
Metrics". Those can be hidden by using optional graph overrides.

So if we could get code that handles switches that would be great. If web 
UI needs to be fixed we'll fix it. It's not that big of a deal.
