As there seem to be quite a few games programmers on the list and the 
sdl/opengl bindings are coming along nicely, I may suggest that joining 
the ludumdare http://www.ludumdare.com/ 48hr games coding competition is 
an idea? Python and BlitzBasic will be pretty stiff competition...;-)
