I suspect you're right, Vim+ECL being single-threaded and all. Welcome back to the days of DOS: if your machine crashed, you had to reboot it. If your Vim crashes, you may have to kill it. But maybe we could catch SIGINT or something, or write an :around method on one of the stream output functions to check for a request to abort.
