Thanks for taking the time to explain and for your additional research. A lot has to do with luck, time of day, and where the person is located. One thing I could not figure out is the comment at the top of gar.gnome.mk. How is the default location Sweden? Is gnome.org in Sweden? Nonetheless, you're correct. I forever tweak and even incremental improvements in performance over many packages will make a potentially large difference. I'll keep experimenting and will report anything new. > char > *t="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"; > main(){ char h,m=h=*t++,*x=t+2*h,c,i,l=*x,s=0; for (i=0;i<l;i++){ i%8? > c<<=1: (c=*++x); c&128 && (s+=h); if (!(h>>=1)||!t[s+h]){ > putchar(t[s]);h=m;s=0; }}} You never did explain what the algorithm was for the encoding here :-). I tried to make the code readable but my feeble attempt failed ): Thanks for any clarity you can share on the above. -- Peter -- garnome-list mailing list garnome-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/garnome-list
