This is a strange little problem.
I had been using the new Graphics insert to insert a .eps file and it
worked, but I could not view the graphic in LyX, so I tried reverting to
old Graphics.
I got error boxes about too many \end{center}s
I removed the \align center below, and it worked. I then looked at the
backup file before making that change, and the entire line ending with
\align center was missing, as well as the preceding \layout Standard.
Maybe putting this line in is not a good idea :)
