Some years ago, I watched a documentary video, in the UK which portrayed a four cylinder diesel engine running under water. There were no exhaust gasses being released and no air was being admitted. The engine was running on diesel fuel, the exhaust gasses were re-circulated through a chemical filtration system and were re used with the fuel. I do not remember what the purpose of the demonstration was other than to show space or military application, I believe the program was "Tomorrows World."
