Two Daves Pick the SEC

September 3, 2008

Welcome to Two Daves Pick the SEC !! Were it not for the inept
Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Tennessee Volunteers, the SEC would
have opened the 2008 season 12-0. Yes, even Vanderbilt won. We get our
first in conference game this week as South Carolina travels to
Vanderbilt. Was it just me, or was there a commercial on this weekend
with Bubb Rubb in it going WOO-WOOOO ??

Bubb Rubb says:

Nothing, my man is MIA. When he emails me his picks, I'll add them.

Thursday night: South Carolina @ Vanderbilt

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I see a trend here. In ESPN's opening
game last year, the home team, Mississippi State, saw QB Mike Henig
throw six picks. Last week, in its home opener, South Carolina's Tommy
Beecher threw four picks. Was anyone surprised that Spurrier is starting
Chris Smelley, who looked like the second coming of Danny Wuerffel last
week? With Smelley behind center, that was vintage Spurrier offense.
With Ellis Johnson's defense pitching a shutout, the AKC may make a run
for the SEC East title. Eric Norwood will probably kill someone this
week, what an intense player!

Vandy surprised most with their thrashing of the MofO's - I don't think
anyone saw that coming. Chris Nickson made some great plays in the game,
but facing a solid SEC Defense will be a different story. That's kinda
like what you hear every time Barack Obama is asked the same question.

AKC 24 - Vanderbilt 17

Southern Mississippi @ Auburn

The golden beagles won their season opener trouncing directional
Louisiana 51-21. They face a much different task this weekend as they
travel to see Swanger and Auburn.

Auburn thumped directional Louisiana 34-0 last weekend. I still miss
Junior Rosegreen - reigning coolest named player in the SEC. Oh, back to
football - Auburn will probably win the game, but don't be shocked of
USM's Damian Fletcher picks up a buck-fifty rushing - he's a good
tailback.

Auburn 27 - USM 14

Ole Miss @ Wake Forest

Could this be another SEC thrashing of an ACC opponent? Ole Miss QB
Jevon Sneed is solid, there's talent all around - Orgeron could recruit,
he just could not coach. Could this be a major upset, kinda like the
republican party finding out about Sarah Palin's daughter? I think so.

Ole Miss 21 - Wake Forest 20

Central Michigan @ Georgia

Georgia did not RUTS last weekend, so the pollsters resumed blowing Pete
Carroll. Central Michigan has some talent, but they don't have enough to
pull this one off. Knowshon only scored a TD three of the eight times he
ran the football.

Georgia 38 - Central Michigan 17

Directional Louisiana (NE) @ Arkansas

Bobby Petrino is going to look like gold with a 2-0 start. Wait until he
faces SEC competition.

Arkansas 41 - DLNE 20

Directional Louisiana (SE) @ Mississippi State

When King Jackie was at Mississippi State, he personally coached special
teams, as he knew the importance of this portion of the game. Winston
Churchill say "Any ass clown knows that is a fact". Well, apparently
Sylvester Croom doesn't. What a hideous showing by the Bulldogs. At
least Croom has the sense to stop the 2QB rotation now that Tyson Lee
doesn't appear to be over 5'8".

Sly, I'll make this easy on you. 24 can run, feed him the ball. Do this
and........

Mississippi State 24 - DLSE 13

Norfolk State @ Kentucky

Norfolk State? WTF? I swear, I've never even heard of them. Seriously.

Rich Brooks apparently has some coaching left in his tank after his cats
whipped the MofO'S last weekend. Another SEC tam starts 2-0.

Kentucky 31 - Norfolk State 13

Tulane @ Alabama

BAMA IS BACK! Oh, come on, they looked very good against Clempson, but
Clempson is an ACC team. If Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson plays like he
can play, this will be the BITCHSLAP OF THE WEEK! IF she plays like she
can play, Alabama will be fortunate to win.

I expect the Tide to roll all over the wave.

Alabama 42 - Toolame 10

Troy @ LSU or LSU @ Troy

Thanks to Hurricane Gustav, Baton Rouge is a bigger mess than usual. Gus
was relentless on Mississippi and Louisiana. Residents start returning
to New Orleans tomorrow, and with so much cleanup going on, I don't know
if this game can be played in Red Stick or not.

This just in, the game has been postponed until November 15th.

The U @ Florida

Jesus, Brent Musberger is broadcasting this game. OK, So I'll watch with
the volume muted as this is going to be a god football game. Both teams
beat the ever loving sh.... Freaking family show... BEAT THE CRAP out of
their opponents last weekend. Things will be a bit different this
weekend.

And I quote from the SEC web page:

THE COACHES

Randy Shannon is in his second season at Alabama and overall with a
record of 6-7 (.462). The Hurricane's offensive coordinator is Patrick
Nix and the defensive coordinator is Bill Young.

Urban Meyer is in his fourth season at Florida with a record of 32-8
(.800) and in his eighth season overall with a record of 71-16 (.816).
The Gators' offensive coordinator is Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong
serves as the defensive coordinator

WTF? Hello ? Mike Slive ?? I know you are still honeymooning with ESPN,
but come on. Everyone knows Alabama will never have a black head coach.
If Miami of Ohio is the MofO'S then ....

CHOMP CHOMP 38 - Mufuh's 20

Ron Polk - The Ted Kaczynski of College Baseball
