I have not posted in over 2 years but I do read most of the emails, but today
is a different situation. It's a moment in Gator History where you will
remember where, when and how you learned that Urban Meyer was leaving.

Here are my 2 cents worth on hiring a new football coach at UF.

The criteria.
1. Must have head coaching experience at a significant level, ie. D1 or NFL.
2. Must be young, that being less that 55 or so.

2 names that will be talked about are Bob Stoops and Mike Shanahan. Neither
will be interested IMO, Stoops seems happy and locked in at Oklahoma and
Shanahan is the leading candidate for the Washington Redskins. But you have to
call both to find out if they might have a slight interest, but you don't go
thru the same process that was used 5 years ago and avoid the embarrassment of
being turned down publically by both.

I would use the Urban Meyer model, an up and coming head coach that has had
success at a lower level school who wants a chance at the big time and wants to
compete with the best.

5 names.

1. Chris Peterson at Boise State
2. Gary Patterson at TCU
3. Jim Harbaugh at Stanford
4. Randy Edsall at Uconn
5. Kyle Whittingham at Utah

All 5 are young, all are head coaches, all have had great success at schools
with out the stature of UF.

One long shot NFL head coach that is young and charismatic, Mike Tomlin at
Pittsburgh.

IMO, no person with a UF background as a player has a chance to even be
considered.

Actually one of Meyer's assistant coach would be a better option. Meyer will
stay at Gainesville. His persistent presence would give new guy too much
pressure.
