A few questions/comments:
1) He just completed his 5th season with the Dolphins. So he was on Saban's staff. I wonder what the implications are of that. 2) I hope this doesn't mean we lose Heater or any other defensive assistant. 3) Can this guy recruit? 4) I have to think that if Meyer got the man he wanted, he will be good. Edwards, an assistant at UF under Steve Spurrier in 1991, is the most tenured member of the Dolphins' coaching staff, just completing his fifth season with the team. He has 11 years of NFL coaching experience, including one as a defensive coordinator. Edwards, 43, has previous NFL coaching stints with Cleveland, Washington and Dallas. He was the defensive coordinator for the Redskins under Spurrier in 2003. Before going to the NFL, Edwards, a former defensive standout at Duke, was an assistant at four schools - UF (1991), Appalachian State (1992-95), Duke (1996) and Georgia (1997). The hiring of Edwards will complete Urban Meyer's coaching staff. In his first three seasons with the Dolphins, Edwards tutored the linebackers. The past two seasons he's focused on coaching the inside linebackers, including former Florida standout Channing Crowder. Crowder has called Edwards "the best assistant in the NFL. Period." Meyer and interim coach Steve Addazio have hired three new assistants this week - Edwards, Stanford defensive ends and special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin and Syracuse running backs coach Stan Drayton, who was Meyer's running backs coach at Florida from 2005-07.
