One question we could (probably) discuss without venturing into THFGT is . . . when you consider what happened at Kansas, then Texas Tech, and now USF, is what Keith wrote actually happening, or are these isolated incidents that bear no resemblance to each other? I'd say one probably should regard the Texas Tech situation as unique. A concussion is a serious medical condition and Mike Leach had no business doing what he did, and the staff should never have gone along with it. However, what about Kansas and USF? Are these cases of the players revolting against their coaches? Go Gators!!!! Ken B. Coaches don't have to withhold water and make you play if you are concussed or your arm or leg is partially torn off. I'm also not suggesting that you wack a player in the head with a helmet or baseball bat. i.e. do something that will permanently maim / injure the player. But to not be able to get a player's attention or give him a kick in the butt when he needs or deserves it - is ridiculous. It sounds to me like the players are running the teams and the coaches are losing control of the teams. Look at what has happened to the classrooms. The students run the classes and the teachers can't say a word to them. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [gatortalk] Leavitt fired at USF for striking player and lying about it From: "Darlene Goodfellow" <goodfell...@earthlink.net> Date: Fri, January 08, 2010 4:35 pm To: <gatortalk@googlegroups.com> Bear Bryant damn near killed players as well...we know so much more about dehydration, concussions, etc. than we did back in the good ole days. No coach can get away with the stuff guys like Bryant and Hayes did and I think that's probably a good thing. If Leavitt had told the truth there is a slim chance he could have survived, but to hit a player then lie about it, well, would you want a guy like that coach UF, no matter how successful? Not me. ----- Original Message ----- From: ke...@baldwinnc.com <mailto:ke...@baldwinnc.com> To: gatort...@googlegroups.com <mailto:gatortalk@googlegroups.com> Sent: Friday, January 08, 2010 4:14 PM Subject: RE: [gatortalk] Leavitt fired at USF for striking player and lying about it I admit that I don't know what the circumstances are in this case - but let me phrase it a different way. If you threw every coach out of football that ever struck a player - most coaches would be gone. Then they'd all be soccer players! Football players are suppose to be the toughest SOBs you ever met. Let's not turn them into soccer players. I wonder what Bear Bryant would have to say about this? -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [gatortalk] Leavitt fired at USF for striking player and lying about it From: "Darlene Goodfellow" <goodfell...@earthlink.net> Date: Fri, January 08, 2010 3:47 pm To: <gatortalk@googlegroups.com> I'm not sure in today's climate if he could have survived hitting a player, but hitting a player and then *lying* about it put the USF administration in a tight spot and they didn't really have much choice. ----- Original Message ----- From: ke...@baldwinnc.com <mailto:ke...@baldwinnc.com> To: gatort...@googlegroups.com <mailto:gatortalk@googlegroups.com> Sent: Friday, January 08, 2010 3:44 PM Subject: RE: [gatortalk] Leavitt fired at USF for striking player and lying about it I thought Leavitt was the men's football coach - not the women's tiddly winks coach?
