I don’t know.  Couldn’t you have two 8-team divisions and one playoff game?
Play all seven teams in your division and maybe one (or two) from the other
division.

The only way I can see a 16 team league working is for the league to have 4
divisions with a two-game championship.  Since the NCAA is unlikely to allow a
two-game playoff, I can’t see how it could work.

Yes, but with the advent of the 16 team mega conferences, NO ONE will be
playing out of conference games anymore.  The nice matchups will all disappear
as they all have a full in conference schedule.  Out of conference matchups
will disappear...

I would mostly agree with that.  But there are pollsters out there who do look
at who you play out of conference as well.. .and lets say you have 4 teams who
are 12-0.... Out Of conference schedule would probably be a determining factor
as to who is 1,2 3 and 4 especially if some of them are from the same
conference.

Well in my opinion... it also diminishes the chances of creating a strong out
of conference schedule too... which many teams/conferences have to sometimes
rely on (ie Big televen) to help out their SOS when their conference is down
(IE: OSU, scUM, etc)

Amazing that scUM and F$U would now consider joining the SEC when they ran away
as fast as they could back in the early nineties.

On the subject of expansion, I really dread the thought of it. If the
conference thinks it is necessary to stay competitive, then I understand the
motivation.
IMO, one of the great things about college football is its regional character.
The SEC is Southern football (i.e., the best in college football). The other
conferences represent their regions.

Related to that are the traditional rivalries, which I hate to see diluted or
watered down. Every time we play Texas or Clemson, it means a lost opportunity
to play Auburn or Ole Miss.

As for scUM and F$U, let them wallow in their second-rate conference. They made
their choice; let them live with it. Besides, neither of those programs has the
history and prestige of an SEC school.

Yup.. based on the rumors ive seen/heard are Texas , Miami , FSU and one or two
others that escape me right now.  I think it was Clemson.

On another subject from the Destin meetings.  If the SEC does expand, who will
join?   Texas and A&M?  Or the semis and Miami ?
Clemson?

Floridacoach Urban
Meyer opens up
about health scare
By David Jones, Florida Today
SANDESTIN, Fla. — Florida football coach Urban Meyer became so concerned over
chest pains he has suffered for the past three years that became even worse
during the 2009 season that he almost gave up his job — first announcing Dec.
26 that he was leaving the program then changing his mind before the Sugar Bowl.
Meyer, who turns 46 on July 10, took a break from coaching instead and had
several tests. He revealed for the first time Tuesday at the opening day of the
Southeastern Conference spring meetings that his heart is healthy and the issue
is his esophagus.
"The biggest thing is I wanted to find out what those darn chest pains were and
I did," Meyer said. "It's esophageal spasms, and they've got me on some
medications. I've just got to be smarter in the future, and I'm going to be.
I'm not going to let that happen again.

"But the biggest thing was all that was related to what the heck were those
pains going through my chest. Once you find out what it is, life gets a little
better quickly."
MORE ON GATORS: Florida team notes
According to the Mayo Clinic's website, mayoclinic.com, esophageal spasms often
cause chest pain that can be confused with angina, causing fear of a heart
problem if undiagnosed.
Symptoms can also include difficulty swallowing, the feeling your throat is
obstructed and a burning sensation. Medication usually solves the issue, but
surgery is sometimes needed in severe cases.
Meyer, who led Florida to Bowl Championship Series titles in 2006 and 2008, did
not discuss the issue much further, saying he wanted to keep his health
private. The Gators' coach, however, said he was feeling much better with the
medication he has used.
Meyer first complained of chest pains after a loss to Alabama in the SEC title
game and was treated at a hospital in Gainesville .
"It all relates to one pain, and that was waking up every morning with a
toothache in your chest for the last three years and that's all related to one
thing," Meyer said. "And so, since late January is the last time I had any
issues at all with that.
"Part of the reason for taking time off before spring practice and again after
was to better learn how to deal with stress. He made offensive coordinator
Steve Addazio acting head coach during that time and relied more on assistants
to handle part of the workload.
"I feel fantastic," Meyer said Tuesday. "I think I've got a better appreciation
for the guys around me. When you just bolt for five days, I've never done that
in my life. I just say, 'Hey you guys got it, handle it.' And the stadium's
still standing. As a matter of fact, guys are working out, getting faster,
graduating. It's going well."
