Kind of reminds me of Mick Jagger back in 1968 saying he didn't want to still
be singing "Satisfaction" in his 40s.

Years later, when he was, he responded to a question about his earlier remark.
He said "well, it's a good song."

I hope Spurrier is still coaching (effectively, not like Blowden) and enjoying
it for many more years. I also hope we beat him every time we play.

Go Gators!!!!

Publicly admitting he is only going to coach another 3-4 years has GOT to put
some serious concerns into the heads of potential recruits...

I can't believe he came out and said this!  He already is not pulling in cream
of the crop classes.  The road just got tougher.

Don't call Spurrier old

Steve Spurrier
The Associated Press
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is looking to coach another three or four
years. head

It's your Daily Football Fix! Gainesville Sun staff writers are here to help
get you through the long, hot summer with a daily dose of college football. The
series runs every day until the start of fall practice.

Shortly after he left Florida following the 2001 season, Steve Spurrier went
from being the Head Ball Coach to the Ol' Ball Coach. How did that happen?
"I got to the ( Washington ) Redskins and somehow or another it happened,"
Spurrier said. "I guess I was just another old ball coach, like I'm another old
salesman. It sort of stuck up there. Boy, the Head Ball Coach, I liked that
better. But it doesn't really matter. I don't really think much about it."
So, feel free to call Spurrier the Head Ball Coach or the Ol' Ball Coach.
But don't call him the Old Ball Coach.
Spurrier recently turned 65, but he may be in the best physical shape of his
life. Mentally, he's as sharp as ever — and he's fired up about trying to get
South Carolina over the hump this season. Spurrier always ran and worked out
during his 12 years at Florida . But he's really taken his workout regimen to a
new level in recent years. The result: He feels great and he's eager to coach
for another three or four years.
"Age has nothing to do with how you perform," he said. "Life is all about your
health and your fitness. I'm sort of proud that I've lasted this long and have
not gotten fired. One of my goals is to be a coach that never got fired. I'm
hoping in three or four years I'll be able to hang it up on my own."
Back in the late 1990s, when Bobby Bowden started coaching less and less at
Florida State, Spurrier used to say he didn't want to stay in coaching too long
and become just a figurehead at a program.
At 65, Spurrier is coaching (and running his program) as much as he ever did.
"I never thought I'd coach at 60 when I was 40 or 50 years old," he said. "But
it gets here quickly. All of a sudden it's here and you feel as good as you did
15 or 20 years ago. I still hope to put together a ( South Carolina ) team that
will win one (an SEC title)."
Spurrier credits his long run in coaching to his workout habits.
"I've been working out for 30 years," he said. "I enjoy doing it. I try to
recommend it to everybody, but a lot of people don't listen very well."
