Why do we want Texas A&M, other than getting exposure in Texas? Is that sufficient? (Maybe the conference just wants all the teams where Bear Bryant was a HC).
Really, I wonder what the formula for deciding whether a team can (at least) pull its own weight in the conference, financially. How much more is the conference's television contract worth with UF than without? It's speculative, but I assume the conference execs are doing a similar exercise with all the potential adds. Interesting that back in the early '90s, the conference first wanted F$U and scUM, not Arkansas or USC. It turned out better this way for the conference, I think. It was the schools' lucky day when USC and Arkansas got invited to join. It was the conference's lucky day when F$U and scUM said no. If we add Texas A&M, and feel the need to add a team from the eastern side of the country, I think Clemson would be the best fit, among those being mentioned. Maybe because (I think) they actually sell out their stadium, and seem to be as football-crazy as the rest of the conference. Of course, if it's all about adding media markets, the it will probably be VT. Go Gators!!!! Ken B.
