I look at it this way. You are trying to build a team and develop an attitude, yet you have reporters asking loaded questions and then taking part of your response to try and create a story. Just look at Deonte's comments this summer about Brantley being a real QB. If you read his whole answer, he complements Tebow and says Brantley is a drop back passer. He used a poor word choice, but his intent was clear, only if you read the whole quote.
Or let's compare it to a business. Say you have a really cool idea for a new software service, do you tell everybody about it and blog each line of code you write, or do you wait until it is patented and protected to release it?
I can see lot's of reasons why practices are closed and really only a few for why they should be open. None of the reasons for why they should be open has anything to do with making the team better, they only have to do with added exposure for the program and to satiate the unwashed masses that 'need' to know before game day.
Close practices, win on Saturdays, I am happy.

football fall practice roster [Andreu]

Seriously - I keep trying to figure out what the deal is.
I guess all this media coverage puts too much pressure on the kids. If you
went to work and you had 10 to 20 reporters blogging about every little
thing you did - blowing it out of proportion - you would feel pressure also.
Keith just dribbled some tea down his shirt. Keith is not sitting up
straight. Keith is not typing using all his fingers correctly. Keith is
not paying attention during the meeting. Keith can't spell. Keith is not
showing good form and slouching yet again. Keith made a grammatical error.
Keith did this. Keith did that.
It would make you mad also. Pretty soon you would start doing things more
based on what the media coverage outcome would be - instead of what your
coaches expected.
Whereas Tennessee - there is no media coverage and no pressure to perform.
If those guys just show up and make a good showing - their fans are happy.

I thought it was solely to torture you, Keith. They are telling you - See!
Look what you could use, only if we opened practice.
The sad part is if you want to drive up to Knoxville, their practices are
open to the public. If you get too bored, you could do that and scout them
for Coach Meyer.
I'm just trying to help! :-)

Why publish a roster with numbers for fall practice - if we can't see the
players and their numbers?
Not that I am bitter or anything .
