Whitson, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound righty pitcher from Chipley, signed a letter of intent to play at UF before being taken ninth overall by the Padres in June's amateur draft. According to MLB.com, Whiston's fastball tops off in the mid-90s. His pitching repertoire also includes a slider that tops off at 81-83 mph and a change up at 80-82 mph. He has good command of all three pitches.
