When SOS arrived, Donald Douglas was the starting QB the year before, of
course Shane Matthews came out of nowhere to be a great Qb, but no one can
honestly say they saw that coming....plus Emmitt Smith had decided to leave
a year early.

What SOS had was a very, very good defense coming back.

We went 6-5 in 1989 and had a horrible bowl game to end the season against
Washington if I remember correctly, that was the game that Emmitt Smith took
himself out of and took the pads off before the game had ended.

I think the program is much more stable now than when SOS took over.

Mostly agree.. but lets also remember... Spurrier had a good amount of
the pieces already in place to help with that transition too.
