I tend to agree with you.  As I said, you praise in public, and admonish in
private.  I would like to think McEIwain knwos that, and I believe this was
done on purpose and was calculated.

Muschump (sic, intended) ranted and raved about what, I feel, he knew nothing
about or about what people expected him to be upset about.  He was in over his
head.  He didn't seem to have a set of rules and regulations for the team as a
whole... He was situational and individual.  There seemed to be a different
standard, a different modus operandi, a different end result and different set
of rules.

McElwain is making a point.  He publicly ripped our known star player.  That
has teeth and a lasting impact. Players want discipline.  They want rules, they
want leadership.  They may not even know that yet, but a team can not exist
without discipline.  Might that scare away thugs and hooligans?  Sure... but we
don't want them.  These are kids that need/want/desire a strong leader.
Whether they have self-acknowledged that or not, that is debatable, but there
is not a single player in the NFL that has not realized that, and THAT is where
they want to be...

I don't think you can compare what McElwain did, and his reasons, to how
Muschamp did things.  I honestly think Muschamp did things because it was
expected and not necessarily for the good of the program.  The Taylor ripping
was not just for Taylor-- it was for all of us.  It represented a change, a new
direction, a new tolerance or lack thereof, and a new path.  That's more
powerful than any Muschamp rant.
Time will tell, but I don't think you can compare the two...

Love ya Charlie!  No ill feelings.  Gators til we die!  Now lets kick some UK
a$$.

Like I said, we had the king of the rant and ravers on our sideline the last 4
years and you saw where that got us. Now maybe some people respond better than
others to being screamed at, we'll see.
I'm not going to argue with other Gator fans about what is proper behavior
for the head coach so carry on.

Kinda upset?  Do you think it was unwarranted?  Do you think he was out of

If my players blatantly disobeyed or did something I specifically said not to
do, they could probably expect the same... This is not care bear football.
These are athletes in which the university has greatly invested in or is
willing to do so.  If they can't hack it, or the parents can't, maybe they
should go.
I coach football.  I expect far more from my players in the locker room than
any joe shmoe fan would ever expect.  They are students first, athletes second,
and their responsibility is to their teammates is far before themselves.  The
idea that the coach should not be mad or upset or express it is just plain
foreign to me.  You wouldn't let your own kids get away with irresponsibility
and disobediance, would you?   How would you have him express it?
I found it VERY telling that he did NOT chew him out by himself and isolated.
He was surrounded by a whole bunch of players.  So was that a teaching moment
or a made for TV moment?  He had a circle of players-- many I did not even
recognize, surrounding Taylor.  I imagine it was both moments.

McElwain is building something here.  He is changing a culture of a lack of
accountability.  He held a star to a higher standard in front of a group of
players.  While I normally subscribe to the "praise in public, admonish in
private", that was a very public and teachable moment-- for Taylor and the
whole team and nation.  That is NOT what the Gators represent.  He is trying
to show that-- to parents, to recruits, to fans....

To not come down hard on Taylor condones it... I have no problem with
McElwain's handling of the situation.  If it was not "made of TV", then why was
Taylor in the next series?  There is more to this than meets the eye...

  Look big picture.

Unfortunately all the players except the true freshmen have witnessed
ranting and raving first hand the past few years. I was kind of disappointed in
coach's behavior on the sidelines. Hopefully imo he can figure out a way going
forward to correct the problem.

The way he chewed out Kelvin Taylor after the "slashing" personal foul after
the TD shows how angry he was at the entire team play.  They better get it
together going into the meat of the season, starting next week!!!

you watch Mac’s post game talk. He is seething and very, very disturbed to the
point of being near speechless. The offending players are going to have to make
a decision NOW or they’re done, gone, maybe even off the team. This looks
really ugly. Hopefully he will have the strength to hold back physically. Looks
like a bit more of a tweak and he could snap.
