On the Big fight conducted by NDTV 24x7 the debate, on whether the gays / lesbians have finally come out of the closet , remain inconclucive
Although the Roman catholic expresses no sign of arrogance against the homosexual community bt the so called "good Priest" (who featured the show ) made contradicting points as to whether the Church in India is in support or against the "community", as it seemed to be so from the statement which he made indicating the number of Homosexuals who have been converted into hetrosexual thru counselling. A social club official was also on the debate counter arguing the points made by the "Good Priest" & concluded that what needs to be changed is the ideology of the people towards the gay & lesbian committee which i suppose was derived from the view exppressed by an audience*(mother) on being posed the question of how she would deal if her son/daugther came to her on one day and told her that he/she was a gay/lesbian. The viewpoint of this official was convergent with that of another Social Organisations' member Mrs. Anjali. The viewpoint of the audience witnessing this debate was rather mixed where on one hand there existed member audience who would not at all accept a homosexual even as a friend & on the other hand there were people who "would not mind having a gay friend but would definately mind having a gay roommate" Yet on another hand there existed people who were willing to help the "community" to come out and improve its acceptability. It was rather surprising to find out that when the channel conducted a general poll asking people around the question that whether the gay & lesbian community have finnally come out of the closet, in Kolkatta where there was a huge rally conducted by the gay community in the recent past, all the pollees expressed a completely arrogant view against the "community". But a vary valid point here made by Raajdeep Sardesai( the one conducting the debate) was that when people realise that a sensitive question of this kind & thier answer was a public issue & they would be on the TV screen where any one of their family members / friends could be seeing them then it is obvious that people would be reluctant to express their true opinion, which again brings us back to the social ideology point which was in the hot seat of the debate. In conclusion as for me the question still is that why has it been forgotten or remains unknown that homosexuality is not a matter of choice and rather a result of a complex interaction of the biological environment around us which has been proven by many international studies. As for the arguement on social ideology i would like to present a part of the work of Karl Marx as interpreted by Prof. Oskar Lange that the social ideology forms a part of the superstructure of an economic system along with the remnants of the past ideology & the nuclei of the new ideology & a Superstructural change either requires a long time period ( as we see in the case of the practice Sati & dowry killings, which still exists in the Rural India despite all efforts by the social & political organisations of the country to make people realise that these were wrong) or a Revolution all together the best example of which is the Russian Revolution.
