Hotels: YWCA in Colaba a couple of years ago fine, cheap and clean. [10.05]
Hotel Lawrence is a great choice at around 400 r's a night, share showers & toilets, great beds, fan cooled rooms, lovely people, great location, nice free breakfast. clean & good. Safe place & nice owners. [ 10.05]
Hotel Prosers's; looks like a dump on the outside but rooms are clean and the owner is friendly and helpful. [11.05]
Pals Hotel, http://www.palshotel.com/accom.asp central, clean, en-suite, a.con single 520 rp incl. tax[11.05]
Avoid Hotel Volga II in Colaba - washbasin backed up with sewage, showers barely work and really noisy as people arrive and leave all day and night.[11.05 ]

Hi,

Just add Salvation Army to your list and they have their contact details in the LP India version.

Better still, give Mumbai a skip and land in Pune....much cheaper, less polluted and fun.

Cheers,

We stayed at the Harbour View Hotel in Coloba, very close to the Gateway to India.

Great views, good rooftop restaurant and friendly.

They will also do an airport pick up if you pre-arrange it with them.

Have a good trip...

I would give a big recommendation to Bentley's hotel. In the LP. Range of rooms from budget to lower mid-range. Most expensive rooms are about 1400 Rs and v good value for Mumbai (IMO). They are huge, loads of old furniture, balconies, v clean, include breakfast and just nice. Stayed there a couple of times. Only thing to beware of is that some of the cheaper rooms that are technically en suite (own bathroom) don't actually have the bathroom in the room - you have to go outside the main door. THis is because it's part of a big old house. But still a great place to stay and it usually fills up quite far in advance.

Bentleys seems like a good deal. Colaba is a better palce for tourists to stay - very touristy, but well suited and priced. Of course South Bombay has always been the more upmarket area of Mumbai so the crowd is better.
