This is not a gay-themed film per se. However it's interesting from the standpoint that the film-makers try to restore the 'gay gaze' in Forster's writing. There is a lot of so-called gay subtext, with Daniel Day-Lewis' character usually being singled out by academics as that of a closeted gay man. Having received a lot of critical acclaim for this film, the team (including script-writer Jhabvala) was far more adventurous in exploring homosexual themes in the beautiful 'Maurice'. *Maurice* (1987) 140 min English Cast: James Wilby, Hugh Grant, Rupert Graves Synopsis: Two male English school chums find themselves falling in love at Cambridge. To regain his place in society, Clive gives up his forbidden love, Maurice, and marries. Written from personal pain, it's E M Forster's story of coming to terms with sexuality in the Edwardian age.
