Nikhil <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419992/>* (2005; 120min; Hindi) *From the film's website <http://www.mybrothernikhil.com/index_html.html>* This film is set in Goa... between 1989 and 1994. Nikhil Kapoor is the state all-round swimming champion. His father Navin has raised his son to be a sports man... a dream that he never achieved for himself. His elder sister Anamika teaches in a primary school and loves him dearly. His mother Anita adores him and from her he inherited the artistic side to his personality. One day he is arrested. The reason being…. that he is HIV positive. He is kept in forced isolation by law. The Goa Public Health Act allowed the government to isolate HIV positive people. His parents desert him and his friends move away. The only two people who stand by him are his sister Anamika and boyfriend Nigel. *From the film's director Onir (excerpt from a review<http://www.afterelton.com/archive/elton/movies/2005/8/mybrother.html> )* This film tells the story of a man who suddenly falls from grace and is socially ostracized. His parents, friends and colleagues all turn their backs on him as his whole world collapses. It is also about how relationships redefine themselves in times of crisis; about parents who are unable to face social humiliation and abandon their son; about a son’s remorse at being rejected by his parents and of his longing for their love; about his quest to achieve something in life, and to be loved; about a sister who defies her parents and stands by her brother, caring for him and protecting him with unconditional love; about a gay relationship that withstood social disapproval. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Time:* 6pm to 8pm. *Venue:* The Humsafar Trust-Centre for Excellence, Ground floor, Rivera Building, 15th Road, Santacruz West, Mumbai - 400 054.
