Background: Naz Foundation International (NFI) is an international development agency headquartered in the UK, with its regional programme office based in Lucknow, India, where it implements a regional programme of technical and institutional assistance to support its South Asia country partners to strengthen their capacity to support locally-based MSM and HIV and sexual health interventions in their countries. As a coalition response to the sexual health needs of MSM and hijras in South Asia (PSI Nepal, UNDP, NFI, and its four country partners), a South Asia multi-country regional application was made to the Global Fund on AIDS, TB and Malaria Round 9, which was secured. Countries engaged in this will be Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. NFI as a sub-recipient (SR) of this project, where PSI Nepal will be the principal recipient (PR), will be responsible for implementing the range of MSM/hijra technical assistance and support to the different countries through a process of Community strengthening, reducing vulnerability, and minimising risk of the further spread of HIV for men who have sex with men and transgender populations in South Asia. NFI Regional Office is now seeking to secure staff to implement the two-year Phase 1 of the project. Position Description: The Research Coordinator is responsible for the developing, implementing and coordinating with Project partners, a range of studies on the psychosocial, psychosexual and ethnographic frameworks of MSM in South Asia to strengthen the knowledge base towards developing effective and appropriate response to the sexual health needs of MSM. He/she will also liaise with other institutions in regard to research on behavioural and epidemiological studies on MSM, as well as produce relevant reports on all studies, reviewing NFI’s research agenda and updating this. Summary of responsibilities: · Coordinate research activities being implemented by NFI as a part of the GFATM Regional Project · Keeping up to date with information, debates and knowledge on MSM and transgender issues, specifically how they affect males in South Asia and other sub-regions in Asia and the Pacific. · To provide information, policy papers, reports and briefings on a range of HIV/AIDS, sexual health, sexualities, welfare and rights issues as and when requested. · Work with the Technical Support Manager and Knowledge Manager to manage and analyze data related to MSM and sexual health issues and concern. · Coordinate and manage research activities with research agencies and other stakeholders. · To develop in conjunction with research partners research project proposals. To submit these proposals and manage any relevant research projects. · Assist in the design of research protocols for quantitative research studies such as psychosexual and psychosocial needs and issues of MSM. · To undertake specific research activities as determined by senior management · To make presentations on a range of HIV/AIDS, sexual health, male sexualities, welfare and rights issues as requested. · Assist in the design of monitoring tools, training in use of tools and assistance with implementation as necessary. · To attend meetings, and conferences as requested. · Assist in the design of research protocols for qualitative research studies such as focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and communications materials pre- and post-testing. · Assist in analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data. · Follow up and monitor field work for various research projects. · Summarize draft reports and prepare presentations for research projects. · Complete other administrative duties related to research activities. Skills and qualifications required: · Experience managing and overseeing research activities · At least 3 years of work experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, preferably among MSM and transgenders · Knowledge of MSM, HIV/AIDS, and sexual health in a South context. · Bachelors/Masters Degree with equivalent work experience. · Ability to communicate research findings in English. · Demonstrated ability to work independently. · Prior knowledge of statistical software package (e.g. SPSS) and GIS software. · Interest in public health or private sector approach to international development preferred. · Computer literate with a very good working knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office products. · Good communications skills. · Excellent technical research and writing skills. · Fluency in English (Essential). Knowledge of other South Asian languages would be useful. · Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and meet deadlines with attention to details and quality.
