Dear All,
One of Indias most decorated female athletes has been charged with rape by
a live in girlfriend. The police threw away all her rights and have
repeatedly flouted all procedures of treating and arresting female persons,
and a picture published in the Telegraph (attached), clearly shows the
police fondling her breasts.

It has created outrage. The National Human Rights Commission is now ceased
of the matter. Pinki has become a litmus test of gender fair-play in a
state that is ruled by a woman. But this is a woman who has lost it. She
sees a conspiracy against her power and her government at rapes of women in
the middle of Kolkata city. She has given impunity to the police to act in
brutish ways against women and sexual minorities, while those officers who
work towards seeking justice for rape victims are sent away on punishment
postings.

Kabir Sumon, a verson of Bengal's 'Bob Dylan', is a MP from the Chief
Minister's party, but because he speaks the truth and stands up against
oppression, he is today labeled a dissident. He wrote this song (Roughly
translated below) on seeing the Telegraph Picture...

Gradually the atrocity against Pinki is unravelling the hollowness of this
mad woman in power, her government, and her police. I hope it becomes her
waterloo. In the meantime, we all have to stand by Pinki and ensure that
she gets justice, that all these violations are accounted for, and that the
guilty, no matter how high they go, gets punished.

Best, Aditya B

Kabir Sumon's Song:

*Are you a man, or woman, clear your stand? *
*I'm a policeman & I wants to know, *
*If needed, by pressing your tits with my hand..*
*
*
*Do see the picture printed in the newspapers...*
*
*
*Your body is today a public circus*
*Police hands wield the whip*
*But they are helpless*
*
*
*All they can do is to aggressively grab *
*your face with their hands *
*"Prove it Pramanik, are you a man, *
*or a woman..??"*
*
*
*They can't wait want to see you naked*
*
*
*Who cares about the gold and silver medals*
*you brought for the nation*
*that you are our national hero*
*shall not be of consideration*
*
*
*They captured your gender test*
*in a mobile cam video that day*
*and because they thought it best*
*its all over the internet today*
*
*
*To see that vid now, many will rush*
*after this song they hear*
*burn my sadness is all I can do*
*In the fire of my anger...*
