This may appear unrelated at first glance. Please read entirety before
blasting me. :)

All:
In light of the latest run of hacks, cracks, Trojans and virii, I
strongly urge everyone to start blocking the following files from email:

*.asp
*.bat
*.cmd
*.com
*.inf
*.ins
*.pif
*.reg
*.scr
*.shs
*.vb
*.vbs

GTA:
Do any of the current products have the ability to block attachments
with the ability to set programmable criteria for the blocks? Perhaps
this could be provided in the next release - working with the mail proxy
feature.

I feel it is time for the firewall industry to step up to the plate as
this latest batch of trash is intended to bypass such security measures.
It would be nice if I could tell exec staff that my choice of f/w was
the first to offer this ability.

I fortunately have these blocked (and more, via third party proxy) and
the only system I saw compromised was a laptop connected into the AT&T
global dial-up service while traveling (started with "blaster" then http
proxy, "hacktool"...). They forgot to update their A.V. and had reset
their admin password to "enter"!

Regards,

Danny

Subject: [gb-users] relays.osirusoft.com

[I know this isn't stricly GnatBox-related, but since the GB provides
RBL features which many of use, I figure it's kinda relevant]

The relays.osirusoft.com RBL is no more :(

IMPORTANT: This means that if you are using it in your RBL configuration
with the GnatBox email proxy, you will already, or very shortly, stop
receiving _all_ email. As of earlier today, in a largely unannounced
move, relays.osirusoft.com is returning a *positive* hit for all
referrals. This will have the effect of making the email proxy (or
similar configurations with postfix/Sendmail/qmail/etc) refuse all email
as though it were spam, with a log message of "Please stop using
relays.osirusoft.com".

If you want all the gory detail, head over to
news://news.admin.net-abuse.email/, but be prepared for a *long* read.
