Hi all, I hope someone can advise, before I make an almighty cock-up. We've decided to install a gigbit backbone for the servers to communicate on. Internally, we use 172.20.0.1 - 31 for the servers, 33 and up for network devices, and 172.20.1.0 - 254 for workstations. All devices on the network are using 255.255.0.0 as a net mask. My cunning plan was to put 1gb cards in all the servers, and assign the same IP to each of the cards on the backbone, as is assigned on the client-visible side. The firewall would be configured with a third interface with the IP 172.20.0.31/26 connected to the backbone. Would it need to have a static route added to force traffic for the servers to come over the server backbone ?
Each server would have their default gateway set against the new card to be 172.20.0.31. Could I rely on the IP stacks of the servers (Aix5.2, Linux 2.4, Win2k, Win2k+3) to setup their routing tables such that when attempting to talk to a neighbouring server, they use their private network, without having a complete brain fart ? Would I have to tweak the metric values, such that the client-visible cards had a greater metric value than the private-server side ? Hope this makes sense, and TIA Kind regards Simon Delicata ******************************************************************************** Simon Delicata Planer plc, 110 Windmill Road, Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, UK, TW16 7HD Tel: +44 (0) 1932 755064 Fax: +44 (0) 1932 755063 E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Home Page: http://www.planer.co.uk ******************************************************************************** ------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archive: http://archives.gnatbox.com/gb-users/
